rodrigo r rodarte

activation / engagement / storytelling

Rodrigo is the founder of RE.CO. He grew up moving from place to place - San Francisco, Ensenada, Buenos Aires, Palm Springs - and for the past 15 years, Los Angeles. He has been shaped by the constant state of being new in unfamiliar places and the imagination it took for his younger self to adapt and create community.

A seasoned public space planner and experience designer, Rodrigo started his career freelancing in graphic design for real estate developers, and later programming (and sometimes living in) their empty buildings. With nine friends, he started the House of Happiness, a co-living artist compound occupying an old boarding house slated for redevelopment in Los Angeles. He quickly learned the value of  bringing his own life -  art, design, music, food - into forgotten spaces.

After a lucky introduction to park redevelopment expert, Dan Biederman, Rodrigo spent 7 years working for Biederman Redevelopment Ventures on park planning and programming projects across the US. He was instrumental to projects such as Salesforce Park in San Francisco, the Ivy Station project in Culver City, Fair Park in Dallas, the Exposition Park master plan in Los Angeles, and many other exciting projects. Traveling to dozens of cities from Honolulu to Honk Kong, he grew to truly love embedding himself into unfamiliar communities and helping infuse their traditions, hobbies, and cultures into public space programming.

Since 2020, Rodrigo has run his public space consulting business, Rodarte Projects, now called RE.CO, helping community stakeholders realize the value from activating and investing in public spaces.

Rodrigo studied Film, Media, and Literature Studies at the University of California at Santa Barbara, Design Communication Arts through UCLA Extension, and User Experience Design through Design Lab’s UX Design Academy.

Rodrigo is Treasurer of the Board of Trustees for Fulcrum Arts, a Pasadena-based non-profit focused on the interplay between art and science.
