STORYTELLING

While serving as Project Manager at Biederman Redevelopment Ventures (BRV), RE.CO founder Rodrigo Rodarte led the implementation of the 2020 Pistons Neighbors Program—a collaborative initiative between the Detroit Pistons Foundation, the City of Detroit, and the Detroit Parks Coalition. This program aimed to provide safe, free, and engaging outdoor activities across five Detroit parks during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Building upon previous efforts to offer special events and summer basketball clinics, the 2020 program expanded its scope under BRV's leadership. The initiative introduced daily amenities such as games and art supplies, stationed park ambassadors trained in outdoor public safety, and offered regular programming including children's art classes, music, dance, yoga, and juggling lessons.

The program was funded by the William Davidson Foundation, the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation, and the Detroit Pistons. Rodrigo oversaw the programming in all five parks and collaborated with local Detroit organizers to execute community engagement efforts and implement necessary COVID-19 safety protocols.

The 2020 Pistons Neighbors Program not only provided much-needed recreational opportunities during a challenging time but also laid the groundwork for future community-focused initiatives in Detroit's parks.
